Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) has moved to end Moveable Dwelling Tenancy Agreements (MTDAs) for TRC-owned caravan parks.
At today’s Council meeting in Ravenshoe, Council agreed to the change and to commence a broader review of the caravan park strategy.
‘Our two parks are in prime locations and they need to be promoted as places to get away and relax,’ said Mayor Rod Marti.
‘MDTAs are not considered a service in the long-term interests of the parks and ratepayers.
‘Some of the MDTAs are being used to fill the void of the wider public issue of a lack of affordable housing to low income earners.
‘This is not an appropriate use of MDTAs.
‘MDTAs may lead to significant financial impact to ratepayers should the dwellings no longer maintain the definition of a ‘movable dwelling’ under the legislation.
‘We will work with residents under MDTAs to find a more appropriate solution to their housing needs,’ said Mayor Marti.
